AIDS Memorial
Memorial for AIDS Victims
Set on a hill in Brighton's Kemp Town (which is still heavily rainbow-ed following Brighton Pride at the beginning of August), this memorial is dedicated to Brighton's victims of the AIDS epidemic.
My Bed and Breakfast (called the "Fab Guest" - really amazing, check it out here: fabguest.co.uk) was located right in Kemp Town, the SoHo of Brighton. An area riddled with artsy cafes and other places with a lot of soul, Kemp Town is also the LGBT centre of Brighton. This particular little park is on the way from Kemp Town to Brighton proper, and is worth checking out. From the bottom of the hill, the actual memorial statue - in the shape of a heart - sits at the top of the hill. In my own opinion, this symbolizes the uphill struggle that is the fight against HIV/AIDS.
In contrast, when looking down from the top, there is a very different feeling: the expansive English Channel gives a strange feeling of serenity to the whole thing. Chilling, beautiful, and definitely a must-see.
